
According to statistics, Taiwan imported 496,000 tonnes of scraps in April 2012, rising by 11.2% YoY and increasing by 22.6% MoM.
Among them, 311,000 tonnes were imported from the US, increasing by 16% YoY; 33,000 tonnes were from South Africa, surging by 617.3% YoY; 31,000 tonnes were from Hong Kong, down by 6.2% YoY and 17,000 tonnes were from Australia, soaring by 154.2% YoY.
In the first four months of 2012, Taiwan's scrap imports totaled 1.71 million tonnes, declining by 7.4% YoY.
In the given period of time, the US was the largest scrap exporter to Taiwan with 1.012 million tonnes, up by 0.7%; Hong Kong was the second largest one with 121,000 tonnes, reducing by 16.4%; Australia was the third largest one with 59,000 tonnes falling by 12.3%; South Africa was the fourth largest one with 51,000 tonnes, surging by 213.2%.
