Tenaris held a Dopeless® technology demonstration on May 22nd 2012 and May 23rd 2012 at the Weatherford facilities located in Santa Cruz de la Sierra for members of local and regional oil and gas companies.

Participants were able to see first hand the operational performance and HSE benefits that Dopeless® technology offers and discuss the full array of benefits.

Dopeless® technology is a dry, multifunctional coating applied to TenarisHydril premium connections on dedicated production lines at the company's mills worldwide. Along with minimizing the environmental footprint of oil and gas E&P, experience with Dopeless® premium connections worldwide has shown that the solution reduces running times up to 25% and makes operations more reliable by achieving nearly zero re make ups and rejects.

Mr Constantino Espinosa, Tenaris Technical Sales engineer, said that "The anticorrosive protection and superior galling resistance that Dopeless® coating brings in comparison to conventional practices where dope is used was clearly visible on different premium connections, such as TenarisHydril Blue® and TenarisHydril Wedge 563™."

Mr Felipe Rodríguez, from YPFB Andina, expressed that this is a technology that will optimize drilling operations in terms of operational performance. Other customers noted the benefits related to the reduction of environmental impact, less pipe handling and improved well productivity. This last point is achieved because Dopeless® eliminates formation damage caused by thread compounds used in standard connections.

In 2013, YPFB Andina is considering Dopeless® technology for gas operations in Bolivia.
