The Swiss sculptor and son of the painter Mr Giovanni Giacometti, Mr Alberto Giacometti was born in 1901 in Borgonovo and died in 1966, in Chur. He began his education in Geneva, moving on to Paris years later, where he studied with Antoine Bourdelle. In this period he was in contact with some of the most important Dadaist, Cubist and Surrealist painters of his time who exerted strong influence at the beginning of his career. Between 1930 and 1934 he adhered to the Surrealist movement, and in this period he produced some pieces of art that were fundamental to the characterization of Surrealist sculpture.
Inspired by human figures and influenced by African art, Cubism and Surrealism, Mr Giacometti created his own distinct characteristics, which can be appreciated at MAM RJ beginning July 18th 2012.
Curated by Mr Véronique Wiesinger director of the Alberto and Annette Giacometti Foundation, the art on display reveals the versatility of the mind of a genius from the last century.
Tenaris is sponsoring the show in partnership with the Techint Group of Companies in Brazil.
