Dopeless technology was used for the first time in offshore explorations projects in Kenya and Mozambique. These operations demonstrated the technology's reliability and HSE benefits.
In Kenya an independent oil and gas company used 13 3/8" 68# L80 casing with TenarisHydril Blue® Dopeless® connections. A major European oil and gas company then chose 9 5/8" 53,5# P110 casing with TenarisHydril Blue® Dopeless® connections in Mozambique. During both operations, the connections were run without rejects, reducing non productive time.
Dopeless® technology is a dry, multifunctional coating applied to TenarisHydril premium connections. It brings quantifiable benefits to even the most challenging E&P operations. The process guarantees that the exact amount of lubricant is applied to each connection. In standard E&P operations thread compounds are applied manually in the field with a brush. Connections with Dopeless® coating arrive rig ready, saving time and money while reducing risk.
Mr Jorge Cano technical sales Sub Saharan Africa said that "Both customers observed Dopeless® technology's environmental and safety benefits on the rig. By adopting the zero discharge technology, the oil and gas companies were looking to minimize the environmental footprint of their operations."
Tenaris's regional field service team was present to provide technical support, field inspection and running assistance during the entire operations.
In 2011, Dopeless® technology was run offshore West Africa. The technology is already widely used, with more than 6.5 million feet in the ground in more than 20 countries worldwide.
