Tenova Re Energy, the company part of Tenova network which specializes in engineering and construction of heat recovery systems, has signed a contract with Feralpi Siderurgica to supply an EAF system for its German plant Elbe Stahlwerke Feralpi GmbH in Germany.

After the first successful operating on the 140 tonnes EAF in GMH since 2009, this new important reference consolidates the Tenova Re Energy leadership in the field.

Mr Ralf Granderath CEO of Tenova Re Energy said that "Up to 20 MW from the off gas of the existing EAF will be recovered turning the Feralpi EAF into the probably most energy efficient EAF worldwide."

The recovered energy is converted into steam, which is partly sold to a local energy carrier and partly led to an ORC turbine generating 2.5 MW electrical energy. It's the first time superheated steam is generated from an EAF, proofing that creative concepts for energy usage are the success key for industrial heat recovery.

The system is part of the solution package that is the global innovative solution of Tenova to increase productivity, optimize energy consumption and reduce transformation costs.

The plant in Elbe Stahlwerke Feralpi GmbH will be commissioned early 2013.
