Tenova has recently celebrated the twentieth anniversary of Consteel, the continuous charging system for electric arc furnaces, with a two day international event.
On the first day, the Chairman of the Techint Group Mr Gianfelice Rocca welcomed, at Villa Borromeo at Senago Milan in Italy, 150 entrepreneurs and corporate executives from the world steel industry.
Mr Rocca defined the attendees the ‘Consteel Community’ founded by Mr John A Vallomy, a group of technologists sharing a commitment to steel, energy and environment sectors in which Techint Group has been working for more than 60 years.
T
he following morning, the Consteel Day guests visited the Acciaierie Arvedi where the world largest Consteel plant is in operation and the afternoon was dedicated to the Consteel Users’ Club Meeting in Milan Tenova Headquarters where several papers on this technology have been discussed.
The highlight of the celebration was the presentation of “Consteel, 20 years of a great idea”, a book of photographs released specially for the occasion.
Today there are 36 Consteel plants worldwide, for an installed capacity of more than 30 million tonnes of liquid steel per year; none of these plants, in 20 years, has been dismantled or replaced with another technology. Ten new systems are currently under construction or commissioning testifying that the revolutionary Consteel idea continues to be the technology of the future.
