While the unemployment rate remains high across the country, ThyssenKrupp Steel in Calvert is offering jobs. The process begins at its new training center.
As per report, ThyssenKrupp Mobile County facility has 8 classrooms and 7 labs. The labs lead to a shop area where crane training will take place. At least 250 people will be in class every weekday.
Mr Olga Harris project manager at ThyssenKrupp Mobile County facility said that the amount of time each student spends in the classroom depends on the curriculum, the job requirement and skill level.
Mr Andy Ritter VP of Human Resources said that there are 6 instructors at the training center but more instructors will be hired soon. There are around 300 employees at ThyssenKrupp Steel. He added that "We'll hire another 400 between now and the end of the calendar year, and we'll hire another 400 into spring."
Mr Ritter said that the company is looking for people who are willing to learn. He added that "We don't expect most people to come here with an experience in steel manufacturing, we'll train them here. What we need are people coming here with a good work ethic, they're willing to learn, they're willing to try, and take good instruction."
