
CantonRep.com reported that Timken Co and United Steelworkers Local 1123 have agreed to extend the current contract to October 15th 2009. Both sides said negotiations will continue next week, but no dates have been set.
It’s the second extension to continue negotiations on a new contract. Steelworkers are working under the terms of a contract that expired at midnight September 27th 2009.
The present 4 year contract covers about 1,840 workers who make steel and 486 who manufacture bearings. When it was negotiated, steel plant workers numbered about 1,700 and bearing plant workers numbered about 1,000.
