Timken announces Henry Timken Scholar Award winners

The Timken Company has awarded scholarships of USD 310,000 slated for 2011, with a total value of USD 790,000 over four years, funded by The Timken Company Charitable and Educational Fund Inc. Company officials presented the awards in person to 38 college bound students chosen from more than 200 applicants, all children of Timken associates from around the world.

The USD 50,000 Henry Timken Scholar Award recognizes the top ranked applicant and is renewable up to three additional years for a total of USD 200,000. That award goes to Ms Anna Swigert of Louisville. Ms Swigert, a graduating senior at Louisville High School, plans to study mechanical engineering at the University of Dayton. She is the daughter of John Swigert II, manager of new product implementation at Timken's headquarters in Canton.

Selected for USD 30,000 scholarships, renewable for up to three additional years for a total of USD 120,000 each, were:

1. Mr Jordon Huff, a senior at GlenOak High School in Canton who plans to study aerospace engineering at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. He is the son of Timken retiree Mr Eric Huff

2. Ms Heidi Zhuge is graduating from Dietrich Bonhoeffer Gymnasium in Hilden and plans to study biology and management at Imperial College. She is the daughter of Mr Bo Chen of Haan, an accounting clerk at Timken.

Five were awarded USD 10,000 scholarships, renewable for up to three additional years for a total of USD 40,000 each:

1. Ms Kristine Duly, a senior at Canton Central Catholic High School who plans to study biology and pre medicine at Johns Hopkins University, is the daughter of Mr Larry Duly, process and equipment specialist at Timken's Harrison Steel Plant in Canton

2. Mr Daniel Janini, a senior at Green High School in Uniontown, Ohio, who plans to study biomedical engineering at Northwestern University. He is the son of Mr Paul Janini, principal manufacturing engineer at the company's Gambrinus Steel Plant in Canton

3. Ms Elise Mercer, a senior at Spartanburg High School in Spartanburg, SC, who plans to study biochemistry at Auburn University. She is the daughter of Samuel Mercer, quality advancement specialist, at Timken's Tyger River Plant in Union SC

4. Mr Joshua Ross, a senior at West Branch High School in Beloit, Ohio, who plans to study biochemistry at The Ohio State University. He is the son of Mr John Ross, manager of rings purchasing in Canton

5. Mr Zachary Taneyhill, a senior at Hoover High School in North Canton, Ohio, who plans to study health sciences at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He is the son of Mr Timothy Taneyhill, manager of manufacturing systems in Canton

30 students earned USD 5,000 scholarships:

1. Ms Hannah Arvidson, a senior at GlenOak High School. She is the daughter of Mr David Arvidson, area manager, tube making, at Timken's Gambrinus Steel Plant in Canton

2. Ms Kirstie Bee, a senior at GlenOak High School. She is the daughter of Lori Bee, demand planning principal in Canton

3. Ms Alexandria Biddle, a senior at Marlington High School in Alliance, Ohio. She is the daughter of Timken retiree William Biddle

4. Ms Sarah Biltz, a senior at West Holmes High School in Millersburg, Ohio. She is the daughter of Mr Scott Biltz, account executive and manager, inside sales, in Canton

5. Ms Morgan Capestrain, a senior at Jackson High School in Massillon, Ohio. She is the daughter of Donald Capestrain, project manager, product launch, at Timken's Technology Center in North Canton

6. Ms Patricia Mioara Chiracu, a senior at Mihai Viteazul National College in Ploiesti, Romania. She is the daughter of Marius Chiracu, principal engineer at Timken's facility in Ploiesti

7. Ms Christine Culver, a senior at GlenOak High School. She is the daughter of Charles Culver, principal application engineer at Timken's Technology Center in North Canton

8. Ms Laura Damato, a senior at Keene High School in Keene NH. She is the daughter of Frank Damato, principal application engineer at Timken's facility in Keene

9. Mr Matthew Dellinger, a senior at West Lincoln High School in Lincolnton, NC He is the son of Randall Dellinger, hourly procurement control attendant at Timken's Lincolnton plant in Iron Station, NC

10. Mr Micah Dunlap, a senior at Eastern Randolph High School in Ramseur, NC. He is the son of Randy Dunlap, reliability technician at Timken's Asheboro Plant in Randleman, NC

11. Ms Ashlee Greer, a senior at Belton Honea Path High School in Honea Path, SC. She is the daughter of Tammy McAlister, team leader at Timken's facility in Honea Path

12. Mr Jonathon Gross, a senior at Laurel Jr Sr High School in Newcastle. He is the son of Brian Gross, principal buyer in Canton

13. Ms Jennifer Hall, a senior at Rutherfordton Spindale High School in Rutherfordton. She is the daughter of Jerry Hall, electronics technician at Timken's Shiloh Plant in Rutherfordton

14. Mr Collin Huth, a senior at New Philadelphia High School in New Philadelphia, Ohio. He is the son of Richard Huth, process operator, heat treatment, at Timken's Gambrinus Steel Plant

15. Mr Jenelle Krob, a senior at Canton South High School in Canton, Ohio. She is the daughter of Robert J Krob, principal procurement control engineer in Canton

16. Mr Jorian Krob, also a senior at Canton South High School, is the son of Robert J Krob, principal procurement control engineer in Canton

17. Ms Hannah Lebo, a senior at Green High School. She is the daughter of Daniel Lebo, senior product designer at Timken's Technology Center in North Canton

18. Mr Anthony Lopez, a senior at Charlotte Catholic High School in Charlotte. He is the son of Anthony Lopez Jr, manager, global bearing industrial sales, at Timken's office in Charlotte

19. Ms Ida Messenger, a senior at McKinley Senior High School in Canton. She is the daughter of Paul Messenger, mechanical maintainer at Timken's Gambrinus Steel Plant

20. Ms Brianna Moody, a senior at Heritage Christian School in Canton. She is the daughter of Daniel Moody, process improvement specialist at Timken's Gambrinus Steel Plant

21. Mr Yang Qian, a senior at Wuxi Third Secondary School in Wuxi, China. He is the son of Hongxing Shen, operator at Timken's facility in Wuxi

22. Ms Caitlin Rowe, a senior at Saint Joseph's Catholic School in Greenville SC. She is the daughter of Drew Rowe, program manager, manufacturing advancement, in Union SC

23. Mr Ajit Shashank, a senior at D.A. V. Public School in Jamshedpur. He is the son of Indra Kumar, general manager at Timken's facility in Jamshedpur

24. Ms Jamie Socotch, a senior at Marlington High School. She is the daughter of David Socotch, technician at Timken's Technology Center in North Canton

25. Mr Saransh Solanki, a senior at Loyola School in Jamshedpur. He is the son of Shishir Singh, junior analyst, production, at Timken's facility in Jamshedpur

26. Ms Olivia Sutter, a senior at Hoover High School. She is the daughter of Daniel Sutter, general manager of marketing and business development in Canton

27. Ms Ioana Tanase, a senior at Mihai Viteazul National College. She is the daughter of Gheorghe Tanase, grinder, numerical machines, at Timken's facility in Ploiesti

28. Mr Tanveer Singh Virdi, a senior at Loyola School. He is the son of Hardev Singh, operator at Timken's facility in Jamshedpur

29. Ms Leah Whitton, a senior at Rutherfordton Spindale High School. She is the daughter of Andrew Whitton, quality manager at Timken's Shiloh plant

30. Ms Heather Woodard, a senior at Jackson High School. She is the daughter of William Woodard, application engineering specialist in Canton

Children of Timken employees and retirees are eligible to apply for the program, which over the past 50 years has helped more than 500 students realize their educational and career goals. Since that time, The Timken Charitable Trust has invested more than USD 16 million in the program. The annual scholarships reflect the company's commitment to emphasize and advance higher learning opportunities for deserving recipients who are selected primarily based on merit, as well as community leadership, activities and goals.

The scholarship awards may be used for the cost of tuition, fees, books, supplies, room and board, and transportation at any accredited/approved university of the recipients' choice. Timken relies on an independent consultant to evaluate and select scholars among hundreds of applications received each year.
