TEX reported that the United States Department of Energy has received long term applications to export domestically produced LNG from the US, of which total volume has surpassed 100 million tonnes per year.

By 2011, the applications have been made to export total 9.53 billion cubic feet per day or about 69.57 million tonnes per annum of LNG through seven terminals including Sabine Pass, Freeport, and Cameron LNG Terminal, etc. On January 10th 2012, Gulf Coast LNG Export, LLC applied to export 2.8 Billion cubic feet per d of LNG. On top of that, Freeport LNG also made application for additional 1.4 billion cubic feet per day. As a result, eight LNG terminal have applied for exports of total 13.73 billion cubic feet per day or about 100,230,000 tonnes per annum of LNG.

Gulf Coast LNG is seeking permission to export 2.8 billion cubic feet per day, or 1,022 billion cubic feet per year, or about 20.22 million tonnes per annum of LNG to any country with which trade is not prohibited by US law, or policy. The company will construct a natural gas liquefaction facility and LNG export terminal at the Port of Brownsville, in Brownsville, Texas and start exporting LNG around 2018. At the terminal, four trains capable of liquefying up to 2.8 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas, a marine berth, full containment of LNG storage tank, etc are expected to be built.

Meanwhile, Freeport LNG applied to DOE to export additional 1.4 billion cubic feet per day on January 12th 2012 as mentioned above. Consequently, its total planned quantity for exports has been expanded to 2.8 billion cubic feet per day with two applications for 1.4 billion cubic feet per day each
