United States Steel Corporation announced today that Mr Michael S Williams has been named GM of its largest integrated steelmaking facility Gary Works, effective September 1st. Mr Williams will also have responsibility for East Chicago Tin at East Chicago in Indiana and a finishing facility at Portage in Indiana.

Mr John P. Surma CEO said "Gary Works has more than twice the steelmaking capability of our second largest US plant, which makes effectively managing it and its associated operations among the most challenging jobs at U.S. Steel. With a background in all aspects of both aluminum and steel production and extensive financial and managerial experience, we are delighted that Mike has agreed to return to US Steel to run our flagship operation. We are confident that under his leadership Gary Works will continue to achieve new levels of productivity, quality and service."
