Law360 reported that US Steel Corporation challenged a permit issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection approving discharges from an Allegheny County plant, claiming that the permit imposed improper restrictions on the discharges along with undue monitoring and reporting obligations.
In filings with the state's Environmental Hearing Board, the company targeted the requirements of a permit, issued in September 2012 and covering a five year period, allowing its Clairton Plant to discharge effluents into two nearby waterways. The company contended it was unreasonable to expect the facility.
