
American Iron & Steel Industries reported that, in the week ending January 28th 2012, US domestic raw steel production was 1.897 million tons while the capability utilization rate was 76.8%. Production was 1.790 million tons in the week ending January 28th 2011, while the capability utilization then was 73.2%.
The current week production represents a 6% YoY increase from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending January 28th 2012 is down by 0.7% WoW from the previous week ending January 21st 2011 when production was 1.911 million tons and the rate of capability utilization was 77.3%.
Adjusted YTD production through January 28th 2012 was 7.583 million tons, at a capability utilization rate of 76.7%. That is a 5.9% YoY increase from the 7.160 million tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 73.2%.
