US weekly raw steel production down by 14.2pct YoY

American Iron & Steel Industries reported that, in the week ending October 10th 2009, domestic raw steel production was 1.446 million tons while the capability utilization rate was 60.6%. Production was 1.682 million tons in the week ending October 10th 2008, while the capability utilization then was 70.5%. The current week production represents a 14.2% YoY decrease from the same period in the previous year.

Production for the week ending October 10th 2009 is up by 2.2% WoW from the previous week ending October 3rd 2009 when production was 1.415 million tons and the rate of capability utilization was 59.3%.

Adjusted YTD production through October 10th 2009 was 46.197 million tons, at a capability utilization rate of 47.9%. That is a 46.2% YoY decrease from the 85.779 million tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 88%.

Broken down by districts, here's production for the week ending October 10th 2009:
1. Northeast Coast: 112
2. Pittsburgh/Youngstown: 88
3. Lake Erie: 46
4. Detroit: 64
5. Indiana/Chicago: 427
6. Midwest: 192
7. Southern: 458
8. Western: 59
