
American Iron & Steel Industries reported that, in the week ending August 28th 2010, US domestic raw steel production was 1.698 million tons while the capability utilization rate was 71.5%. Production was 1.381million tons in the week ending August 28th 2009, while the capability utilization then was 57.7%. The current week production represents a 23% YoY increase from the same period in the previous year.
Production for the week ending August 28th 2010 is down 1.9% from the previous week ending August 21st 2010 when production was 1.730 million tons and the rate of capability utilization was 71.5%.
Adjusted YTD production through August 28th 2010 was 58.601 million tons, at a capability utilization rate of 70.7%. That is a 54.9% YoY increase from the 37.830 million tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 46.2%.
