Brazil based newspaper Valor Economico reported Monday that Vale SA wants government aid for a proposed steel mill in Brazil's northern Para state.

Vale wants infrastructure, including a waterway, to be built at the Vila do Conde port in Brazil before the 2.5 million tonne per year flat rolled steel millAcos Laminados do Para project can be underway.

The project is still under evaluation by Vale's board, but with market demand so minimal where the proposed mill will be built, Vale insists that a waterway would be necessary to ship the steel.
