According to Mr Van Nam Pham Chi Cuong chairman of the Vietnam Steel Association, Vietnam's sales volumes of construction steel products decreased substantially to 350,000 tonnes in August 2012 from 500,000 to 600,000 tonnes in July 2012 even though the prices of construction steel products decreased by 3% month on month due to dropped billet and scrap prices.

Consequently, several steelmakers in Vietnam have reduced production over the past few months and some even have been forced to shut down.
