Vinci Construction UK has successfully reached a significant milestone in the construction of the new bus facility in Stoke on Trent city centre, with the completion of the steel frame comprising 240 tonnes of complex curved steelwork.
Vinci is the principal contractor designing and building the landmark bus station which forms the first phase of the Realis Estate's GBP 350 million regional shopping centre, City Sentral.
Mr Jerry Daly project manager at Vinci Construction UK, building division North, said that "We are extremely pleased with the completion of the steel frame. The project is progressing well and once completed, the new and iconic bus facility will create an important gateway into the city centre of Stoke on Trent."
The unusual curved design of the development was the vision of the international award winning architect Grimshaw, designers of the Eden Project in Cornwall and the International Terminal at London Waterloo station.
SBS Architects from Manchester are the practice working with Vinci to deliver the final phase on site.
The bus station includes 22 bus bays, improved passenger waiting areas, a refreshment kiosk and toilets.
