It is reported that cable manufacturer Walro Flex has received its South African Bureau of Standards certification for the manufacture of non automotive cable.
Mr Peter Willers sales and marketing manager at Walro Flex said that the company has diversified its business plan to supply the non automotive cable market, in which it has not been active for the past decade. It has expanded and identified products in this sector that suit its plant and equipment. The products include flat and round automotive and non automotive multi core cables, welding cables, submersible cables, cab tyre and panel flex electrical cables and general purpose cables, ranging from 0.22 mm to 95 mm.
Mr Willers said that Walro Flex has been involved in the cable industry since 1952 and is focused on the automotive harness sector. It supplies products tailored for this sector to local and European markets, and has technical and support agreements with significant European cable manufacturers.
He added that "PVC has been the insulation of choice for most automotive harness manufacturers. The demand for more efficient and flexible cables with higher temperature insulations and lower environmental effects has resulted in PVC formulations changing over time."
Walro Flex has the capacity to produce 35,000 kilometers of auto cable, 800,000 meters of battery cable and 4,000 kilometers of non automotive and multi core cable a month. It has progressively updated its extrusion lines using new Eurocarb crossheads and tooling to ensure use of the latest technology.
