
The Australian Steel Institute has announced the winners of the 2009 Australian Steel Design Awards for Queensland.
According to the ASI, the awards for 2009 testify to the flexibility of structural steel in a wide array of public uses, including a tourism centre, a sports complex, a bridge and a museum.
The 2009 Australian Steel Design Awards are in its 20th year. The winners were presented on August 27th 20009. The ASI said that despite the global financial crisis, there were a lot of entrants into the awards program.
The awards were presented in the four categories of Architectural Steel Building Design, Structural Engineering Steel Building Design, Engineering Projects Structural Engineering Steel Design - Infrastructure and Mining, and Steel Clad Structures Building Design.
The Noosa Visitor Information Centre by Bark Design Architects won the Architectural Steel Building Design Award.
The Structural Engineering Steel Building Design Award was won by the Queensland Tennis Centre by Sinclair Knight Merz.
The Springfield Link Bridge by the Horizon Alliance took out the Engineering Projects Structural Engineering Steel Design Award - Infrastructure and Mining, while Fulton Trotter Architects took the Steel Clade Structures Building Design Award for its Hinkler Hall of Aviation.
