Winners of 5th Alacero Steel Design Contest for Architecture Students

As usual since many years ago, Alacero attracts students from all over Latin America to participate of Alacero Steel Design Contest. As part of Alacero-53 Congress, that takes place in Santiago of Chile during these days, a jury selected the best projects of the 5th edition of this contest.

In 2012, 1.705 students from 193 universities in 9 countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Dominican Republic and Venezuela) prepared projects based on the proposed topic of this edition: Educative Unit for Community Usage.

A prominent jury integrated by architects Sebastián Colle (Argentina), Silvia Scalzo (Brazil), Álvaro Donoso (Chile), Hernando Vargas (Colombia), José Luis Cortés (Mexico), Frederick Cooper (Peru) and Álvaro Rodríguez (Venezuela), selected those projects that stood out because of the adequate and correct use of steel, considering conceptual, architectural, technological and constructive aspects.

First prize was awarded to Brazil team, integrated by students Moacir Zancopé Junior, Danilo Alberto Menon, Lucas Fuson Vitor Jun Takahashi of Universidade Ferderal do Paraná, Brazil. Professors Paulo César Braga Pacheco, Madianita Nunes da Silva and Carlos Alberto Adão mentored the team. Students received a diploma and a cash award of 6,000 dollars. Also, the Facultad of Architecture received a commemorative plaque and a cash award of 4,000 dollars.

Second prize went to Colombia team, integrated by Alexandra Patricia Bolaños, Juan Manuel Bernal and Fabio Andrés Palomino of Universidad del Valle, Colombia, mentored by Profesor Francisco León Ramírez. Students received a diploma and a cash award of 2,000 dollars. University also received 1,000 dollars.

An honorable mention was awarded to Chile team, composed by students Bárbara Castillo, Isidora Billeke and Andrea Alarcón of Universidad San Sebastián, who received a commemorative diploma.
