Itar Tass reported that warning strikes begin at all the four German plants of the Opel Company, a subsidiary of US General Motors.

The strikes will be held at the Opel plants in Russelheim, Hessen, in Bochum, North Rhine Westphalia, in Eisenach, Turingia and in Kaiserslautern, Rhineland Pfaltz, following the sudden decision of the American owners not to sell Opel to reliable investors.

Mr Klaus Franz head of the Open Production Council said that "The actions will begin in Germany and will be spread to the whole of Europe."

According to his information, the workers will protest against the expected closing down of several plants and the reduction of the number of jobs. Aside from it, the strikes will be held in response to the decision of General Motors, which is absolutely impossible to understand.

It may be noted that Americans are planning to close down two of the Opel plants, situated in Germany, and to reduce the numerical strength of the personnel at the other ones. At least 10,000 workers are expected to be sacked.
