World pig iron production in October increased

According to World Steel Association, world pig iron production volumes raised to 85.303 million tonnes in October 2010 compared to 82.58 million tonnes in September.

China has become the world largest pig iron producer. 46.819 million tonnes of metal were produced here in October. The second place is taken by Japan, with 7.139 million tonnes of produced metal.

3.012 million tonnes of pig iron were produced in South Korea, 3.32 million tons in India and 850,000 tonnes in Taiwan. Pig iron production in Brazil amounted to 2.773 million tons for the reporting period, 2.335 million tonnes in the US and 2.49 million tonnes in Germany.

According to World Steel Association, pig iron production in Russia totaled 4.2 million tonnes while at the Ukrainian metallurgical works it totaled 2.5 million tonnes in October this year. It should be recalled that world pig iron production volumes increased by 2.25% to 81.602 million tons in September 2010 compared to the same period last year.
