It is reported that after two rounds of protests on February 4th 2011 and February 11th 2011, the Mittal Poisons Us! protests in Zenica will continue on February 18th 2011.
The citizens of Zenica expressed their discontent over the extreme pollution and emissions by ArcelorMittal's steel mill in the city and demanded urgent action to improve the current situation with air quality in Zenica.
The citizens presented several demands to ArcelorMittal and the local administration, above all, installation of filtering equipment on the exhaust chimneys of company's installations within the next three months and termination of cooperation agreement between the Municipality of Zenica and Zenica University, so that a system of measurements is introduced in which measurements of air quality will be conducted by an independent licensed institution.
They also demanded that all data and indicators about pollution in Zenica are publicly displayed in down town Zenica, in real time, and creation of early warning systems that will sound the alarms in cases of extreme pollution levels.
During the past two protest action, nobody from ArcelorMittal or local administration appeared in front of the citizens to explain what actions will be taken to fight the pollution in Zenica.
