The Board of Directors of the World Steel Association has elected the following new officers for 2009-2010:

Chairman
Mr Paolo Rocca, Chairman and CEO, Techint Group

Vice Chairmen
Mr Lakshmi Mittal, Chairman and CEO, ArcelorMittal
Mr Hajime Bada, President & CEO, JFE Steel Corporation

Treasurer
Mr John Surma, Chairman and CEO, United States Steel Corporation

The new officers were elected for one year, until October 2010.

The Board of Directors met on the first day of worldsteel’s 43rd Annual Conference at Beijing in China.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, the Director General of the World Steel Association, Mr Ian Christmas thanked Mr LN Mittal, Chairman for 2008/2009, for his support and dedication over the past year.

Mr Ian Christmas said: “We welcome Paolo Rocca as the new Chairman, Lakshmi Mittal and Hajime Bada as Vice Chairmen and John Surma as Treasurer. We are also delighted to welcome our new members on board”.
