More than 500 local and international mining companies, including global reputed Vedanta Resources and First Quantum Minerals are expected to attend a mining and energy conference to be hosted by Zambia in May intended to evaluate the country’s mineral potential and encourage more investment in the copper and mining industry.

The forum is earmarked for May 4 this year at which the minister of mines, Mr Maxwell Mwale will be the guest of honour and has attracted among other reputable organisations, Equinox Minerals Limited, owners of Lumwana Copper Mines, China Non Ferrous Metals and other energy companies that are eyeing Zambia’s investment opportunities.

According to a statement by Capital Partners International and African Dream Resources representative, Mr Allan Musona, about 500 delegates are expected at the forum with responses from among others, Mopani Copper Mine, First Quantum Mining, Copperbelt Energy Corporation, Konkola Copper Mine, and Tranter Zambia.

He said that “Big mining and energy houses have already signed up for the conference and will participate. We also expect a huge presence of renewable energy technology providers.”

The indaba will give investors and mining houses an opportunity to understand the vast potential in Zambia for mineral and energy resources.

He said that “The indaba will bring together investors, financiers, mining houses, policy makers and other relevant stakeholders and focus on project showcases with a huge emphasis on mining and renewable energy opportunities.”

The event will also look at issues such as empowerment for locals and communities. African countries including Zambia have a lot of untapped mineral and energy resources which require to be harnessed.

Mr Musona said that “So much copper is produced in the Copperbelt but no real economic/infrastructural development has taken place in all Copperbelt towns.”

The conference is promoted and facilitated by Loita Capital Partners International and African Dream Resources.
