
Alumina ditches dividend after USD 8 million losses
Alumina has abandoned dividend payments for the first time since the global financial crisis after continued weakness in alumina and aluminium markets and the strong dollar pushed it to an interim loss of USD 8.2 million.
The loss was not as bad as the market's expectation for a hit of more than USD 20 million but nevertheless highlighted business conditions for the 40% partner in the Alcoa managed AWAC alumina and aluminium joint venture have continued to deteriorate.
