
It is reported that aluminium markets were in surplus during January to October 2010 although the same declined from 2009. The total primary Aluminium surplus was 318000 tonnes in January to October 2010 as against 1458000 tonnes in January to October 2009.
For the whole year the surplus for 2009 was 1835000 tonnes.
The report from World Bureau of Metal Statistics showed that, the demand for primary Aluminium was 33.6 million tonnes in January to October 2010. This was higher by 4650 tonnes from Jan-Oct 2009. The production during January to October 2010 was up by 3510000 tonnes. Overall, global production rose in January to October by 11.5%YoY.
As per report, in October, the primary Aluminium production was 3,320,100 tonnes and consumption was 3,254,000 tonnes. The total stocks at the end of October stood at 6.52 million tonnes which was equivalent to 68 days of demand.
Chinese output was 13,741,000 tonnes and this currently accounts for just fewer than 41% of the world production total. China is now a net exporter of unwrought aluminium with exports exceeding imports by 295,000 tonnes. During the whole of the 2009 calendar year, Chinese net imports totalled 1430,000 tonnes.
