Mr Pradipta Naik senior BJP leader urged the state government to arrange bauxite for the Vedanta Aluminium Limited which temporarily shut down its refinery at Lanjigarh in Kalahandi district a couple of days ago due to shortage of raw material.
Mr Naik said that the onus was on the state government to arrange raw material for the project so that the company could resume operation of the alumina unit. The state government can consider canceling allotment of Baplaimali bauxite mines to Utkal Alumina International Limited which has been holding on the reserves since 1992 but is yet to set up its proposed 1.5 million tonne per annum refinery project at Kashipur, Rayagada and use bauxite from it to feed the VAL refinery."
He said that "Alternatively, the government can split allotment of Baplaimali reserves for UAIL and VAL or even ensure raw material linkage for the two projects through OMC."
