Business News Americas reported that Venezuelan state alumina company Bauxilum has demanded that state aluminum reducers Alcasa and Venalum immediately pay what they owe the company for supplying alumina.
A Suprabaux union leader said that we know there is money, at least at Venalum, but they don't want to give priority to paying us. Bauxilum is currently facing operational and financial problems due to debts totaling USD 421 million at Alcasa and USD 66 million at Venalum. We hope that will pay at least part of what it owes to enable us to improve operating levels.
State heavy industry holding CVG controls 99% of Bauxilum and the remainder is owned by Swiss group Alusuisse Lonza Holding. The Alcasa and Venalum plants are located in the Matanzas industrial area in Puerto Ordaz city in eastern Venezuela's Guayana region. Both companies are controlled by CVG.
