Brazil achieves 98pct ABC recycling rate

Brazil has reported its highest aluminium beverage can recycling rate in history with 98.3%.

Associaçao Brasileira do Alumínio, the Brazilian Aluminum Association and Associaçao Brasileira dos Fabricantes de Latas de Alta Reciclabilidade the Brazilian Association of Cans of High Recyclability reported the figures based on 2011 data.

The associations said that the country has recycled 248,700 tonnes of aluminium beverage cans out of a total of 253,100 tonnes available in the market last year.

Mr Renault de Freitas Castro CEO of ABRALATAS CEO said that “The industry increased in 2012 its productive capacity in 9.5% going from 21 billion to 23 billion units per year an expectation of 7% growth in the consumption of cans.”

Mr Carlos Roberto de Morais coordinator of ABAL Recycling Committee said that “This result has its foundation in a chain structured more than 20 years ago and that guarantees a strong and consistent demand that remunerates all the links involved therein.”
