Abu Dhabi based Emirates Aluminum’s Al Taweelah smelter has achieved a milestone in seeing the production of 1 million tonnes of hot metal in less than 2 years since its commission in December 2009.

With the average daily metal production since 2009 reaching 1,400 tonnes a day, the EMAL smelter shows no signs of slowing down. Current production stands at 2,035 tonnes of hot metal per day.

Mr Saeed Fadhel Al Mazrooei president and CEO EMAL said that “As a key component of the 2030 Vision, Emal’s significant achievements and ongoing performance would not be possible without a culture and commitment to our core values by our dedicated workforce.”

He said that with phase two construction now underway and expected to reach full production by 2014, EMAL is well on track to meet future increased global aluminum demand. It is also significant that we have achieved this major landmark without compromising our commitment to the health and safety of our employees and our responsibility for the environment.
