Rio Tinto Alcan claims a fire at its Bell Bay aluminium plant is under control.
The fire broke out in one of the smelter stacks at the Bell Bay aluminium plant at 6AM local time on October 2nd 2009.
Fire crew and Rio Tinto’s smelter response teams responded to the fire, establishing a 100 meters exclusion zone.
No one was injured and Rio Tinto Alcan says it will wait for the stack to be cooled down before investigating the amount of damage caused by the fire.
