
The government today said that Geological Survey of India has come up with findings that indicate the presence of new copper and gold deposits in Rajasthan, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh.
Mr Dinsha Patel mines minister of India said that "GSI has made three significant findings discovery of copper mineralization at Khera block in Alwar district of Rajasthan and gold mineralization in Tumkur and Sonbhadra districts in Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh respectively."
Mr Patel said that the government is restructuring GSI, the prime provider of basic earth science information and 300 geoscientists will be inducted in it next fiscal. The impetus is towards getting quality outputs and for this from a headquarter centric organizational structure; GSI has been decentralized into Mission Region matrix mode of functioning with emphasis on undertaking domain specific programs and specialization.
He said that GSI has proposed an outlay of INR 4,596 crore during the 12th Plan and a significant share has been apportioned for continuation of modernization program like acquisition of Ocean Going Research Vessel up gradation of laboratory facilities and drilling equipments.
