At least two US trade associations and one major aluminium company have filed written objections to an Indian wire manufacturer's petition seeking duty free treatment.
The petition which has garnered stark opposition from both Noranda Aluminium Inc and the Aluminium Association was filed by Mumbai based Apar Industries Ltd. in an attempt to add aluminium conductor steel reinforced wire from India to the Generalized System of Preferences program of the US Trade Representative.
The GSP program which is designed to promote economic growth in the developing world, provides duty free treatment to more than 7,000 products from eligible countries.
