Indonesia may impose new tax on tin export
According to Indonesia deputy trade minister Mr Bayu Krisnamurthi, Indonesia the largest tin exporter, may impose a new tax on exports to limit shipments and help boost prices.
Mr Krisnamurthi told reporters that the government wanted to extend the life of mines. He said that “Tin is a mining product and will eventually run out if we keep producing it without any controls.
Since 2007, exporters have been required to pay a royalty and can ship only refined metal.
