
According to Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization, during the 7 months of this year copper mining at the copper Sungun mining and processing complex increased by 14% to 84,700 tonnes.
Sungun mining and processing complex operates in the Iranian province of Eastern Azerbaijan under the IMIDRO's control. The complex consists of Mazraeh opencast mine and Sungun concentrating factory.
In the H2 of 2006, Iran began developing copper ore in the Sungun cooper mine in the North West of the country. The revealed resources of the mine in early 2007 was estimated at 1.7 billion tonnes of ore, containing 0.61% copper an average of which reserves 384 million tonnes of ore with 0.67% copper are proven.
