Kalahari Minerals plc announced that the appointment of Mr Alastair Clayton as a non executive director of Extract Resources Limited in which Kalahari has 40.44% interest. Mr Clayton's appointment is pursuant to the invitation made to Kalahari to nominate an additional representative to the board of Extract and is designed to support the relationship between the two companies, as Extract continues to develop the world class Husab Uranium Project.
Mr Clayton is based in London and is a qualified geologist and mining executive with extensive experience in evaluating, optimizing and financing large scale mining projects internationally. Between May 2006 and July 2009, Mr Clayton was the chairman and then Non executive director of Bannerman Resources Limited, a uranium exploration company in Namibia. He was also previously a Director of Universal Coal PLC, a UK based company with South African thermal coal reserves. Between 1996 and 2000, Mr Clayton was intimately involved in the successful joint venturing, optimization and construction of the AUD 1.3B Murrin Murrin Nickel/Cobalt Project in Western Australia.
He is currently a non executive director of Templar Minerals Limited, an AIM listed mining and exploration group, focused on investing in or acquiring and developing iron ore assets in South America. Mr Clayton is also a senior executive with Solo Oil PLC, an oil exploration company that is currently drilling for oil and gas in Tanzania with partners Aminex PLC and Tullow Oil PLC.
Mr Mark Hohnen executive chairman of Kalahari said that "I am delighted to announce Alastair's appointment to the board of Extract, and I have every confidence that his presence will further underpin the close relationship between Extract and Kalahari as we work towards developing the world class Husab project towards production. Alastair has an outstanding track record of providing quality board level support to numerous resource companies and his thorough understanding of the global uranium industry and investment markets will, I believe, prove invaluable. Mr Alastair appointment comes at a crucial point in the 2 company’s histories, as we eagerly look forward to the publication of the Rossing South Feasibility Study in June this year. This will mark a key milestone in Rossing South's development into one of the world's largest high grade uranium mines, creating significant value for Kalahari and Extract shareholders alike."
