
Reuters reported that Malaysia has asked Australian miner Lynas Corporation to comply with safety and technical recommendations put forward by an independent panel before it can be issued with a pre operating licence for a proposed rare earths plant.
The panel which comprised officials from the International Atomic Energy Agency and independent experts suggested 10 recommendations that should be met before the proposed plant be allowed to the next stage of licensing.
Ms Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria secretary general of Malaysia's International Trade Ministry said that "We will follow the IAEA recommendations to the T. If Lynas gets the pre operating licence it will be required to obtain an operating licence before commencing full operations.
