Midland Exploration Inc announced that it has acquired by map staking 100% interest in 810 claims covering a surface area of about 358 square kilometers and located 175 kilometers northeast of Schefferville, Quebec. Inscription certificates by Quebec's Ministry of Natural Resources and Wildlife are pending. This extensive land position is strategically located 5 kilometers south of Strange Lake Rare Earth Elements deposit and the B-Zone REE new discovery announced by Quest Uranium earlier 2009.
Midland's Ytterby strategic property covers both sides of the Quebec Labrador border and surrounds the west and south Quest Uranium's land position. A peralkaline granitic pluton hosts the Strange Lake REE deposit which is associated with the Mesoproterozoic Mistastin Batholite. Midland has a strong position over this 5 x 7 kilometers batholite which comprises many plutons of variable compositions including K-feldspar granites and also biotite bearing granites that may represent new potential REE sources.

The Strange Lake deposit has been found in the 80's by Iron Ore Company while investigating lake sediment anomalies. Based on compilation of Provincial and Federal Government lake sediment geochemistry, geological maps, mineral occurrences and airborne geophysical surveys, Midland new property is marked by extensive strong un sourced yttrium, uranium, lanthanum and beryllium lake bottom sediment anomalies combined with uranium and thorium airborne radiometric anomalies. All these indications point to the presence of systems similar in nature to the Strange Lake Deposit and signifying that Midland's poorly explored property has a high discovery potential for intracratonic intrusion related REE deposits.

The Strange Lake Area may emerge as a world class future source of rare earth metals. Recent geochemical analysis show the area having a high percentage of the expensive heavy rare earth elements for which the world demand should increase with the emerging green technologies like hybrid and electric vehicles, energy efficient lighting and wind power.
