Base metal prices posted major gains during the first four days of last week on concerns of disruptions to supply, only to loose steam on Friday after data showed that US jobs growth braked sharply in June, quashing hopes that the pace of the US economy is quickening.
The gains were also helped by forecasts that the jobs numbers would reflect a hiring spree in June. Weaker Chinese manufacturing data also helped as it gave the market some confidence that China would not continue tightening over the rest of the year from the perception that China's third rate hike this year would probably be the last in a series aimed at reining in inflationary pressures.
But US non farm payrolls rose only 18,000, the weakest reading since September
