Nevada Copper now has a fully trained underground mine rescue crew at the Pumpkin Hollow mine site after three weeks of training were recently completed at the company’s Pumpkin Hollow site.
Mr Tim Dyhr Nevada Copper VP for Environment and External Relations said that the company stopped excavation for three weeks in order to accommodate the training, but excavation has resumed. Many mines have collaborative rescue crews, but the distance between Pumpkin Hollow and mines in the Elko area makes that impractical.
Mr Dyhr said that Mine workers, as wells those from Atkinson Construction, Nevada Copper’s shaft sinkers were all trained for mine rescue and emergencies. Once a worker is certified on Mine Safety and Health Administration training he or she must take additional training once a year.
In addition, Nevada Copper hosted emergency and rescue training with Care Flight at the Pumpkin Hollow site last Friday. This is part of our overall program. We expected to do it maybe 3 months from now. We don’t want to have any situations at all, but we want to be able to handle any situations.”
