Minerals Processing reported that Portland Aluminum has confirmed the staff restructure announced in mid August has been finalized.
The report said that some employees accepting role changes and 9 employees accepting redundancies.
In April 2009, Portland Aluminum announced a 15% curtailment in production and a target to reduce overall costs by 10% to 15%.
Mr John Osborne operations manager of Portland Aluminum said that the business has worked consultatively with employees, unions, contractors and suppliers since the announcement.
Mr Osborne said that there have been a number of employees who have accepted other roles within the business and a redundancy program has been implemented through a restructure of the staff area. He said that cost cutting still remains a priority and the business still had more work to do to ensure its long term sustainability.
