ALCOA announced that as part of Portland Aluminium’s ongoing program to reduce costs the mineral processing company will make changes to its contractor structure.

Mr John Osborne operation manager of Portland Aluminium said that the contractor consultation process commenced in May 2009, working to achieve our 10% to 15% cost saving and sustainable repositioning the business for the long term.

As part of this restructure, Keppel Prince has been selected as the preferred supplier for mechanical and electrical services including special vehicles. Current contractors, PT Engineering and Silcar will continue until their current contracts expire.

The company said that further work is being done for the remaining contractors and announcements will be made in coming weeks.
