Reuters reported that UC RUSAL is set to restart about 100,000 tonnes of idled aluminum capacity due to increased demand.
A company source said that UC RUSAL is in the preparatory stages of restarting some of the capacity it idled during the economic downturn because of renewed strength in its customer order book.
The restarts are likely to be around 100,000 tonnes of primary aluminum or about one fifth of its idled capacity of 500,000 tonnes.
The source said that this came as RUSAL sees its order book total at a nominal 150% of 2009 production.
