Qatar Aluminum Company has said that its first electrolysis cell has started production of liquid aluminum metal, marking the start of primary aluminum production in Qatar.

Mr Jan Arve Haugan CEO of Qatalum said that the firm will produce 585,000 tonnes of primary aluminum when all 704 cells are in operation in the H2 of 2010.
