
Russian aluminum giant UC RUSAL plans to boost its packing division’s annual production of foil to 100,000 tonnes by 2014, up from 80,000 tonnes per year, the company said Tuesday.
The production increase is to be achieved through upgrades at RUSAL’s three largest foil and foil packaging plants, comprising Sayanal, Ural Foil and Armenal.
Ural Foil’s production capacity is to rise to 24,000 tonnes from 16,000 tonnes per year, with investments amounting to U.S. $7 million. Armenal’s production capacity is to increase to 33,600 tonnes from 26,000 tonnes, with investments at $6 million Sayanal’s production capacity is to rise to 42,000 tonnes from 38,000 tonnes, with investments at USD 4 million.
RUSAL also plans to review the production portfolio of the division to focus on converter foil.
RUSAL is the world’s largest producer of aluminum, accounting for about 10% of the global production of aluminum and 10% of global alumina output.
