
Sterlite Industries Limited handed over the 30 bed Paediatric Block builds in the campus of Tuticorin Medical College Hospital in Tamil Nadu. The foundation of these 5150 square feet Sterlite Paediatric Block was laid in June 2008 and has been built at a cost of INR 8.5 million by Sterlite Industries.
The Sterlite Paediatric Block was inaugurated by Mrs P Geetha Jeevan Hon'ble Minister of Social Welfare of India on 30th 2009. Also present were Mr VK Subburaj Principal Secretary of Health and Family Welfare.
Ms Geetha said that “Sterlite is doing joint projects with the Government for the benefit of the people of Tuticorin. The estimation for the block was INR 5.0 million during foundation stone laying ceremony. But the budget went up to INR 8.5 million during construction. We should appreciate the contribution of the corporate to the Government hospital."
Mr Ramesh Nair COO of Sterlite Industries Limited appraised the gathering about various social development activities being undertaken by Sterlite Industries in the region. He informed that Sterlite Industries in association with District Health Society recently launched 'Save A Child’s Heart Program' to sponsor free heart surgeries for 50 underprivileged children at a cost of INR 3.0 million. Sterlite also recently launched various initiatives like 'Project Clean Hand', 'Medical and Blood Donation Camps' to name a few in 25 villages in and around Tuticorin and in addition also running 7 rural health clinics in these villages.
Mr VK Subburaj Principal Secretary of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu said that “Public private partnerships in health sector have shown encouraging results."
