AAP reported that Miner Terramin Australia Limited has expects to narrow its full year loss and post a significantly improved result for calendar 2010 due to stronger output and higher zinc prices.
Terramin said in a statement that it would report a loss for the 12 months to December of about USD 9 million, most of which was the previously reported H1 loss of USD 7.5 million. This compares to a 2008 loss of USD 19.4 million when zinc prices fell sharply. It is expected that the result will improve significantly in 2010 due to increased concentrate production and a substantial increase in the realized zinc price.
The company said that the zinc price was estimated to be USD 2,300 per tonne during the current half of 2010 compared to USD 1,568 per tonne realized in the H2 of 2009.
