PTI reported that the Chhattisgarh High Court granted bail to two of the accused in connection with the collapse of an under-construction chimney at a power plant of Bharat Aluminium Company Limited in Korba district. A single judge bench of T P Sharma granted the bail to Assistant Engineer Venketeshwar Vitty and Assistant Supervisor Anirudha Tomar of GDCL company.

Sources said that about 40 workers had died following the collapse of the chimney which was being constructed at Balco's power plant in September 2009. The police had registered cases against 17 officials working with companies like Balco, GDCL and Sepco.12 arrested were subsequently released on bail.
